And here it is. The van that fought tooth and nail to stop the project from meeting its deadline. Aside from any other problems with any other vehicles,... this is the one that started it all, and tried its best to finish it all. This van is a great example of why I tell my customers,.. "LET ME FIND THE CARS TO USE, OK?! I KNOW WHAT I AM DOING!". I tell you, nothing is worse than having someone supply a vehicle that is a complete piece of shit. And the money and trouble they go through to make it work so keep from buying another vehicle would amaze you. It always amazes me. This vehicle was the first one found, located by the customer. I received the first two photos only, with some visible surface rust. I asked about rocker panels and was told, "They are solid." Well, his idea of solid and mine are alittle different. His idea of solid is a bunch of rust particles holding hands. We had to cut out and replace the entire lower 1 foot (and some change) of the van, except for the front fenders. Thank God for he parts van. The rear doors were terrible as well, totally eaten. To the point where we had to reconstruct the hinge mounts because when we tried to take the rear doors off, they fell out of the hinge sockets due to the amount of rust decay. We had to repair the doors because there simply was no time left to locate another parts van. The van did run well however. It was the newest of all the vans we received, being I believe a 1992. This vehicle was also a G30, which we were not told about when it was purchased. A pleasant surprise for me to discover later. The vehicle got alittle tied up in transit as well, so it did not arrive until the last week of assembly,... joy. (Yes, that last picture shows us performing the death defying g30-g20 swap on the newly painted van the last few days of assembly) |
